Charles' love for Jiu-Jitsu began in the summer of 2007 when he started training at the Cesar Gracie School in Pleasant Hill, California. Charles trained there under the instruction of Cesar Gracie, Caio Terra and Matheos Andre until he moved back home to Cape May, New Jersey where he was born and raised. In order to continue training, he had to drive 45 minutes to the closest Jiu-Jitsu school. Charles decided to bring Jiu-Jitsu to his community and together with his wife, Kelsy, they opened the Wise Wellness Center in 2011 in Rio Grande, NJ. That is when the Wise Fighters Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Team was formed. The Wise Fighters' location has changed a couple times but they have found their home at 1401 Bayshore Rd. in Villas, NJ. Charles' Wise Fighters BJJ team continues to grow and his school now offers Striking with Ryan Mormello and fitness classes with his wife Kelsy, including Yoga and Pilates. Charles is grateful for all his students and their families and everyone who helps out especially our coaches Zach and James. Oss.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Charles Wise
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling martial art that utilizes technique and leverage to impose strangle holds and joint locks while on the ground, allowing a person to defend him or herself effectively against a stronger and larger opponent. While many hand-to-hand martial arts rely on strikes using speed and power, BJJ takes a different approach. BJJ emphasizes closing the distance between you and your opponent and taking him or her to the ground where technique and leverage can be used to apply submissions or strike more effectively.
